The MTC bus was on its way on the Mannivakkam-Tambaram route and the  mishap occurred when the driver of the heavily crowded bus was negotiating the potholed Mudichur – Manimangalam Cross Road. The driver did not hear the shouts for help from other passengers as he had difficulty in driving on the severely damaged road following the recent spell of heavy rains and consequent floods which ravaged  roadlinks in most parts of the city. People in the locality rushed to the spot and admitted the injured students to a nearby hospital.
