To avert any untoward occurence during the Vinayagar Chaturthi celebrations, 10,000 police are being deployed in the city.

70 areas in the city including Pulianthope, Triplicane, Otteri, Pudhupettai and Zam bazaar are marked as communally sensitive spots.

Also areas under strict surveillance are coastal places like Ennore, Thiruvottriyur, Neelankarai, Kasimedu harbour and Pattinampakkam.

Police have warned strict action on those who come in masses to immerse the idols.
