10 idols seized from duo at Vedaranyam

The Idol Wing sleuths arrested two men in possession of 10 idols worth several crores, in Vedaranyam in the wee hours of Tuesday.

The accused, Selvam and Bairavasundaram of Ayakkaranpulam village, were secured at Vedaranyam bus stand based on a tip-off that they were planning to sell an idol for Rs 1.2 crore. The 90-cm tall idol was seized from them. Investigation revealed that they had hidden nine other idols at Selvam’s house. The officials from Idol Wing rushed to his house and seized all the idols. The duo was booked and remanded in judicial custody. The sleuths said that they were investigating where the idols were stolen from, who gave the idols to the duo and who were they planning to sell them to.
