Petrol, diesel prices continue to rise on Tuesday

In the first seven days of the year 2020, petrol price is up by 60 paise while that of diesel by 83 paise.

Fuel prices continued to surge as the price of petrol rose by 5 paise and that of diesel by 12 paise across all major cities on Tuesday.

According to information on the Indian Oil Corporation website, petrol now costs Rs 75.74 a litre in Delhi, Rs 78.33 a litre in Kolkata, Rs 81.33 a litre in Mumbai and Rs 78.69 a litre in Chennai, after the increase.

Similarly, diesel prices cost Rs 68.79 a litre in Delhi, Rs 72.14 a litre in Mumbai, Rs 71.15 a litre in Kolkata and Rs 72.69 in Chennai.

The Brent crude oil rates which crossed the $70 a barrel mark on Monday amid tensions in the Middle East following the assassination of Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani, has cooled down a little bit on Tuesday to stay below the $70 a barrel.

Domestic petrol and diesel prices are reviewed by oil marketing companies on a daily basis. Price revisions are implemented at the fuel stations with effect from 6 a.m.
