People amazed as toads ‘hitch’ a ride on a python in Australia
Paul Mock, a farmer in Kununurra, Western Australia, was taking a stroll in the wee hours of the morning when he noticed a bunch of poisonous cane toads sitting atop a 3.5 metre python!
Sharing a picture on Twitter, the farmer explained that since the water in the dam increased after a bout of rains, the cane toads had been scurrying away from the rising water levels, and some had taken a ride on the python.
The image immediately went viral, as people were amused by this bizarre ‘hitchhiking’ nature of the toad.
Jodi Rowley, a curator of amphibian and reptile conservation biology at the Australian Museum, later revealed that the cane toads—known to be prolific breeders—were in fact, trying to mate with the python and not merely riding on it!
