Kollywood's 2018 romantic hit 96 will see a Telugu makeover in 2020, teaser of the remake 'Jaanu' has released on YouTube on Thursday.
Samantha plays the titular role Jaanu alias Janaki Devi, essayed by Trisha in 96. This is not the first time the two heroines play the same character in different languages. Goutham Vasudev Menon's 2009 hit film 'Vinnai Thandi Varuvaya' and 'Ye Maaya Chesave' saw Trisha and Samantha playing the leading ladies in Tamil and Telugu respectively.
Gouri Kishan has retained the young Jaanu role she donned in the Tamil original. She is busy with Thalapathy Vijay's Master as of now.
Sharwanand plays the performance-heavy Ram role of Vijay Sethupathi.
Bankrolled by Raju and Shirish and music is scored by Govind Vasantha, whose music in 96 entwined with the narration and tantalized the audience.
The teaser of 'Jaanu' has many shots and frames similar to its Tamil original '96' as Prem Kumar directs the remake as well. He looks to recreate the magic that was spelt by 96, in 'Jaanu'.
'Jaanu' is slated for the Valentine's day release on February 14.
