CHENNAI: While we wait for the concept of time travel to materialise, travelling to the past and exploring places of significance; walking on the same soil as kings, queens and warriors whose praises are sung to date has been made possible by an initiative by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC).
Owing to the hype of the film Ponniyin Selvan, TTDC in collaboration with Fly Holidays is organising ‘Ponniyin Selvan – a Historical Trail’ that will cover some of the major places in the novel and history, alike. The trail which is a three days two nights package will begin its journey from Chennai on September 15.
The tour, starting from Rs 11,000, will cover places like Veeranarayanapuram, Melakadmbur, Pazhuvur, Kumbakonam, Thirupparambiyam, Pazhayarai, Pateeswaran, Thiruvaiyaru, Darasuram, Thanjavur, Kodiakarai, and Nagapattinam, culminating in Chennai.
Attendees will be briefed about the location and its history. In their visit to Veeranarayanapuram, they will be briefed about Vandhiyathevan’s arrival. Similarly, attendees will also visit Thiruvaiyaru, where Vandhiyathevan met Nandhini Devi.
Speaking to DT Next about this historical trail, B Chandra Mohan, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Culture and Religious Endowments Department says, “The trail is an attempt to celebrate and revive our culture and history. We hope people’s interest in knowing our history rises with this initiative.”
