KOLKATA: Bengali film cinematographer Soumyadeep Guin, popularly known as Vicky, was found hanging at his home in south Kolkata on Sunday, a Kolkata Police officer said.

He was 40 years old.

Guin's body was recovered from his room by his family around noon.

Though an investigation has been ordered, the possibility of Guin having committed suicide was not being ruled out, the officer said, adding police will talk to his family once they settle down a bit to know the circumstances behind the death.

"We have been told he may not have been getting the kind of projects he had been expecting in recent times, and we are probing that angle as well. We have been told he was suffering from depression, but all angles are being looked into," the officer said.

Guin had long been a close friend of director Raja Chanda and cinematographer-director Premendra Bikash Chaki.

Guin is survived by his wife and a young daughter.
