Akshaya Tritiya: Gold, silver price spikes in Chennai

Buying gold on this day is a tradition, as worshipping Lord Kuber on this day is believed to bring prosperity.

CHENNAI: On the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, gold and silver prices increased in Chennai. 

While per sovereign gold was sold at Rs 52,920 yesterday, in Chennai, today, the price of 22-carat gold has increased by Rs 360 per sovereign and sold at Rs 53,280.

Accordingly, yesterday 1 gram gold was sold at 6,615, today it has jumbed by Rs 45, taking 1 gram of gold to be sold at Rs 6,660.

It is also reported that the price of silver has increased by Rs 1.30, costing a gram Rs. 90.

Akshaya Tritiya, also known as Akti or Akha Teej, is an annual Hindu and Jain spring festival. As the day falls on the third lunar day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Vaishakha, it is considered auspicious. Buying gold on this day is a tradition, as worshipping Lord Kuber on this day is believed to bring eternal prosperity.
