Boy falls from footboard, run over by bus

A teenage boy was admitted to the hospital in critical condition after slipping from the footboard and coming under the wheels of the bus he travelled on, near Tambaram on Monday.

Chennai: The injured boy was identified as Vasanth (14) of Madambakkam, a Class 10 student of a government-aided school in East Tambaram. On Monday morning, Vasanth was travelling on the MTC bus to his school. As the bus was crowded, the boy was standing on the steps, said the police.

When the bus was nearing Selaiyur bus stop, Vasanth lost his grip and fell on the road and came under the wheels of the same bus he was travelling on. The other commuters immediately rushed him to the Chromepet government hospital, from where he was shifted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.

Police said the boy was in critical condition and is admitted to the ICU. The Selaiyur police have registered a case and are conducting inquiry with the bus driver Nagalingam (45) and conductor.
