Number of streets with new COVID-19 cases dips to 123

Around a month ago, on October 22, as many as 398 streets had reported new cases. Now, overall number of streets with COVID-19 cases has come down to less than 400.

On Thursday, the civic body tested only 7,496 samples, of which only 396 positive cases were identified. This works to about five per cent test positivity rate.

The city reported more than 2.13 lakh COVID-19 cases till Thursday, of which more than 2.05 lakh have recovered – a recovery rate of around 96 per cent. As on date, 4,020 persons are under treatment.

Among the zones, Manali and Sholinganallur have less than 100 active cases with 68 and 84 active cases, respectively. With 419 cases, Anna Nagar has the most number of active cases among city zones. It is followed by Adyar with 399 cases, Teynampet that has 398 and Kodambakkam (391 active cases) as of 9 am on Friday. Thiru Vi Ka Nagar is not too far behind with 381 active cases. Then comes Ambattur (325 cases) and Valasaravakkam (304 cases).

Nearly 60 per cent of the active cases are men, and the rest women. Of all the active cases in the city, 19 per cent are aged between 50 and 59, show civic body data.

So far, 3,837 persons died in the city due to the infection, which works out to a mortality rate of 1.79 per cent. Zones such as Manali, Madhavaram and Sholinganallur have registered less than 100 deaths, with 40, 91 and 48 deaths, respectively.

Teynampet, Anna Nagar and Kodambakkam zones registered the highest number of deaths in the city. Teynampet and Anna Nagar reported 486 and 433 deaths respectively while 425 persons died in Kodambakkam. Mortality rate is higher in Tiruvottiyur and Teynampet with 2.41 per cent and 2.37 per cent respectively.
