Lorry runs over man riding pillion on colleague’s new bike

A 27-year-old man died and his colleague was injured after the two-wheeler they were travelling on was hit by a lorry near Oragadam.

The deceased was identified as Vishnuvaradan of Melmaraiyanur village in Tiruvanalamalai. He was staying in Mathur and working in a private firm in Oragadam. The injured, Nagasudan (25) of Kanniyakumari, was working with Vishuvaradan.


The police said that Nagasudan brought a new bike and he took it to the office for the first time on Tuesday. At Mathur junction, Nagasudan met Vishnuvaradan and offered him a lift. When they were near Vadakal village, Nagasudan applied sudden brake seeing a cattle and the bike skidded. As both fell on the road, a lorry run over Vishnuvaradan and went without stopping.


The Oragadam police, who arrived at the spot, retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination at Sriperumbudur government hospital. The police have registered a case and trying to trace the lorry.


In another incident, a 55-year-old woman was fatally knocked down by a government bus in Rajamangalam on Wednesday. The deceased, Vasanthi, was on the way to a relative’s house in Korattur with her husband, who also suffered injuries.


Meanwhile, a 53-year-old man died and his business partner suffered injuries after a truck rammed the two-wheeler they were riding near Red Hills on Wednesday.


The incident happened when Prabakaran of Ponneri and his friend Sathish (38) of Ayanallur were on their together. While Prabakaran, who rode the bike, died on the spot, Sathish has been critically admitted to Government Stanley Hospital. The Madhavaram traffic investigation police have arrested the truck driver, Maniraj (47).
