Slice Of Life: ‘I want to become a Railway employee, support my siblings'
Every person has a story to share. This column puts the spotlight on the people of Chennai, faces we see but rarely interact with — giving a glimpse into their struggle.
Chennai
After finishing Class 12, I got into a college but had to drop out because of some family problems. I started to work as a helper for an electrician in Tiruvarur. Since I found that job was risky and not satisfying, I quit and came to Chennai two months ago. Here, I started to work at a pizza shop in Perungalathur.
I work here from the afternoon till night all days and get some free time on Sundays. I quite like this job, but my goal is to join the Railways. That’s what I have dreamed of since I was a child, but did not have anybody to guide me. Now, with the help of the shop owner, I was able to buy books to study and am now preparing for Railways’ exams.
I study during my free time and I believe that I have it in me to clear the exam and become a railway staff. I have two brothers and a sister and in future, I would like to support them financially.
