Both Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth enjoy frenzied following among their supporters, and it was but natural that when their films released, fans dressed up like the stars. From filmy hairstyles to eccentric accessories. However, now several members of the actors-turned-politicians’ parties are continuing the trend into their new fields too.

At recent events held by Kamal’s Makkal Needhi Maiam, reporters had a hearty laugh witnessing party members mimicking the Ulaganayagan’s new regal handlebar moustache. Many could be seen combing their facial hair akin to the MNM president and were proud to tweak it and pose for pictures. Some even said that since they had modelled their look on their leaders, they were the ‘true’ supporters! But a few questions on what they liked about the party policies… and this scribe was only met with blank expressions.

Similarly, at Rajinikanth’s last public appearances as well, Rajini Makkal Mandram members took it a step further by not copying the Superstar’s iconic hairstyle – but also dressing like their favourite characters from his films. Several Bashas, Padayappas and even a Kabali could be spotted in full garb. It remains to be seen what sort of look Rajinikanth will sport when he launches his party – we could see an army of supporters in black veshtis and shirts, Kaala style, grace the announcement.

Nevertheless, one would have to wait and see if they would be willing to go bald like their leader.
