Sri Lankan suicide bomber, who studied in UK, named Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed
One of the suicide bombers behind the Easter Sunday terror attack in Sri Lanka is believed to be one Abdul Lathief Jameel Mohamed, who studied between 2006 and 2007 in the UK. London’s Sky News reported that it had confirmed Lathief’s name both from security sources both in the UK and Sri Lanka.

Mohamed later travelled to Australia to complete his postgraduate course before returning to settle in Sri Lanka. Lathief was one of the nine terrorists, who targeted churches and five star hotels across Sri Lanka on Sunday to kill 359 people, mostly Christians, and injure over 500 people.
A report by the BBC said that Lathief did not complete his studies in the UK.
Earlier Sri Lanka’s deputy defence minister Ruwan Wijewardene told reporters that eight out of nine suicide bombers had been identified adding that they were all well educated and belonged to wealthy families. One of them was a woman, who blew herself when cops raided her home, while another, who caused mayhem at the Shangri-La hotel, has been identified as a factory owner, Insan Seelavan.
Inshan Seelavan, according to CNN, was the mastermind behind the attacks. Among others was also a radical extremist, Zahran Hashim.
Cops have arrested 60 people, all being Sri Lankan nationals.
The number of foreign nationals who killed in the attack has risen to 34. Additionally, 14 foreign nationals are unaccounted for at present, and could be among the unidentified victims at the Colombo Judicial Medical Officer’s mortuary.
The terrorist group ISIS has claimed responsibility for the Sunday’s attacks.
Meanwhile it emerged that India had relayed at least three intelligence warnings to Sri Lanka about possible terror attacks just ahead of the Easter Sunday bombings. The final warning was communicated just one hour before the explosions started.
Sri Lanka’s President Maithripala Sirisena has asked for the resignation of one of the country’s defense ministers, Hemasiri Fernando, and the Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara, for their role in the poor handling of the intelligence reports.
