Israel recognizes Guaido as leader of Venezuela
Israel on Sunday threw its support behind Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido as the country’s leader.
“Israel joins the United States, Canada, most of the countries of Latin America and countries in Europe in recognizing the new leadership in Venezuela,” said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a statement.
Guaido, 35, declared himself interim president on Wednesday after Maduro was sworn in for a second term. Maduro was re-elected in May in a race that was tainted by widespread allegations of fraud. Leading opposition figures were not allowed to stand in the election.
