Going Viral: Bhutan’s king cooked food for children from community school
It is not often that one sees a king prepare food for commoners. So when a photographer clicked Bhutan’s king Jigme Kheser Namgyel Wangchuck chopping onions and chillis to prepare food for children at a community school in Mongar, Eastern Bhutan, it became a hit on social media and was shared numerous times by netizens.

The Dragon King, as he is often called in the kingdom, was also in the news recently when he planted thousands of saplings to celebrate the birth of his son. This down-to-earth act of their monarch is being hailed as one of the reasons behind Bhutan’s consistent standing as the happiest country in all surveys and charts. He has travelled extensively all over Bhutan on foot and bicycle to interact with his subjects.
