Indian gets 82 years in jail for Sikh’s killing in US

Gang rivalry and a bar fight appear to have been the trigger for Amandeep Singh Dhami Singh to shoot and kill Parmjit Singh and wound another man during a festival at a Sikh sports complex in 2008.

According to prosecutors, Dhami  arrived at the sports complex armed with Prosecutors said Dhami and his accomplice Gurpeet Singh Gosal were armed with handguns and about 250 rounds of ammunition when they climbed out of their Lincoln Navigator in the festival’s parking lot.

Dhami and Parmjit Singh reportedly had a history of disagreements and turf war between the two. Prosecutors also painted a picture of Dhami as a ‘hard core gangster’.

In a manner straight out of Indian cinema where thugs have prefixes to their names, Dhami even called himself “Mistah Killafornia” and saw himself as a fierce gang leader while police saw him as a ‘low level thug’.

After the daylight murder, Dhami managed to escape and flee to India where he remained for five years. However, he was arrested in Jalandhar by authorities and extradited to California in 2013. He was charged with second degree murder and attempted murder.

Gosal who was caught by the locals after the crime has been sentenced to 25 years to life for his role in the crime.
