Cairo: In a message that was circulated online, an Islamic terror outfit affiliated to ISIS claimed responsibility for the plane crash. A statement that was circulated on Twitter carried the following message. “The fighters of the Islamic State were able to down a Russian plane over Sinai province that was carrying over 220 Russian crusaders. They were all killed, thanks be to God.”
The terror group Islamic State or ISIS has claimed that it downed the Russian airliner carrying 224 people in Egypt's Sinai peninsula. The crash site is in an area where the Egyptian government is fighting an insurgency led by a local Islamic State Affiliate but security sources had earlier said there was no indication that the plane had been shot down or blown up.
Egyptian Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Hossam Kemal had said it was "too soon to determine the cause". According to the statement: 'The soldiers of the caliphate succeeded in bringing down a Russian plane in Sinai.' However, Russian transport ministry sources dismissed the claim suggesting 'they cannot be accurate'.
