Ask the Doctor: ‘Anaemia has been found to be a common complication of chronic heart failure’

I am anaemic and fall sick often. I read that prolonged anaemic condition can lead to heart diseases. Do I face a heart risk?
    R Shilpi, 43
In case of anaemia, the body doesn’t get the amount of oxygen required for the normal functioning of the heart. If anaemia is untreated, it can lead to irregular heartbeat, which is a medical condition called arrhythmia. In an anaemic person, the heart has to pump more blood to make up for the lack of oxygen in the blood. The faster and harder pumping can lead to heart failure of other heart diseases. Anaemia has been found to be a common complication of chronic heart failure, reducing oxygen delivery to the periphery.

What are some common ingredients to treat common cold and cough in children as they are mostly affected in the drastically changing weather?
    V Raju, 35
A weak immune system often causes a lot of health skirmishes such as- cough, nasal congestion, body ache, and headache and muscle stiffness. These ailments often hamper productivity of an individual. Apart from the traditional medications that an individual consumes we often need some parallel support to sooth our body. In such cases using a concoction of Menthol, Eucalyptus, and Camphor or using natural ingredients such as Aloe Vera, Basil and cinnamon often provides effective multi-symptom relief from aggravating cold symptoms.
