How to ensure my father remains healthy as he grows older?
Swathi P, resident of Ramapuram
Nutrition deserves special attention as people become older because it is essential for good health. It is important that elderly people maintain a healthy body weight by eating well and engaging in daily physical activity. It is important to include a variety of nutritious food and to drink plenty of fluids every day. Eating three meals a day should be made a priority. Besides, nutritious snacks are also recommended, especially for those who are underweight and have a small appetite. Lastly, preventing or detecting diseases at their early stages is the need of the hour.

What must one expect after a cataract surgery?
Sandhya T, a resident of Tambaram
The post-surgery period can be broadly divided into two phases–first week after surgery and six weeks after surgery. Most of the recovery and healing takes place during the first week after surgery. During this time, your eye will remain covered at all times, either with eyeglasses or an eye bandage. Most people experience mild discomfort and blurred vision during the first week. This is normal. It is also normal for the eye to feel watery or itchy, but do not rub or scratch it as this might interrupt the healing process. Most people can resume work and everyday activities 24 hours post-surgery. Throughout the six weeks, patients are advised to avoid strenuous activity, high intensity exercise, swimming and must avoid driving long distances.
