    — Seema J, from Chetpet

Digestive complaints such as and constipation, heartburn and bloating are very common, but can usually be fixed with lifestyle changes and pharmacy remedies. You must cut down on foods known to cause wind and bloating, such as beans, onions, broccoli, cabbage, sprouts and cauliflower.  However, it is important that you eat five portions of fruit and vegetables a day. If you get constipation, take steps to prevent it with a fibre-rich diet, drinking lots of fluids and taking regular exercise. Even a 20 to 30 minute brisk walk four times a week can improve your bowel function.

    — Selvan Raj, from Nungambakam

You must maintain a proper sleep cycle. Start by setting regular times for going to bed and waking up. Try to avoid doing any work or taking any stress before going to bed. Avoid using phones, laptops or watching TV before bed. Using thick curtains or blinds to stop you being woken up by light. Avoiding caffeine is a must. Try to restrict yourself from taking afternoon naps. Some people find over-the-counter sleeping tablets helpful, but they don’t address the underlying problem and can have troublesome side effects.
