Fitness Freak: Easy ways to make gymming a habit
Joining the gym is easy. Sometimes too easy, going by the promises made by the gym instructors. The idea of having the perfect body is thrilling but somehow we forget to register the hard work that goes into it.
Chennai
Today, everybody knows that eating right and working out regularly is the key for a healthy body. However, it is statistically proven that a member pays for a one yearlong membership but comes to the gym only 81 days. So, how do we make going to the gym a regular habit? We can do it by taking these small steps.
- Make a commitment to put on your gym clothes and get going to the gym even if you don’t feel like exercising. As soon as you get to the gym, it won’t be hard to convince yourself to do 15 minutes of exercise. Once you’re done with these 15 minutes, commit yourself for another 10 minutes.
- Reward yourself after completing one week of exercise successfully. A good reward would be to treat yourself to a latte or something similar after you go to the gym. Eventually, your brain will anticipate the reward and crave the process (in going to the gym). That being said, the reward should not be unhealthy that it nullifies to gym going efforts.
- Try your clothes on. Take pictures of the ones you can’t get into easily and stick them on the wall. They will constantly remind you of your goal.
- Identify what size you really want to be. A disciplined workout will not only give you the desired result in terms of your body but also pump up your energy. Of course, be realistic about the size you want to be. Choose a size that is healthy and suitable for your gender, age and body type.
- Be realistic about how often you can make it to the gym. Choose a gym that is closer to your house or workplace. Fix a suitable time that you can reach  the gym. Also, pick a partner who can motivate you and encourage you.
- Keep changing your workout routines once in three weeks to avoid monotony and keep your interest and passion intact. Varied workouts will also add to the fun.
- Constantly visualise yourself in the figure or the body that you want to achieve.
