The history says, that on July 1, 1882 saw the birth of renowned physician and partisan Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy. He is remembered till date for actively involving himself in starting many institutions, hospitals and was fully dedicated to the Indian society.
Doctor’s Day is observed to pay tribute to Dr B C Roy and salutes the spirit of his dedication. The red carnation was chosen as the official symbol of Doctors Day because of the colour of the flower is in spirit of characters of medical profession. It represents adoration, charity, sacrifice, bravery and audacity.
There are several ways that this day is observed, including the greeting of physicians by their patients with greeting cards and flower arrangements. Special meetings are convened to commemorate the day and honour doctors for their performance. Commemorative functions and dinners are arranged by hospitals or other organisations to felicitate the medical fraternity.
Doctors’ Day is a perfect time to recognise the pressure of the job, expressing thanks to doctors for mentoring and to be grateful for their ability to comfort and heal.
