I have had acne for many years now and though they have decreased, I have a lot of scars. Can I get flawless skin?

Visalakshmi, Tambaram Acne is a skin disorder that needs treatment at all stages. Scarring can be avoided if treated early. Scar treatments are decided based on skin colour, skin texture and the type and depth of acne scar.

The common treatment options are chemical peels, microdermabrasion, subcision combined with the modalities of treatment like dermaroller, PRP injections, laser skin resurfacing, fillers or minor surgical procedures like punch excision and grafting.

Different types of acne scars like ice-pick scars, rolling scars, box scars and keloid scars require specific modes of treatment. Superficial scars can be treated by microdermabrasion, peels or both. Moderate scars can be treated by subcision, dermaroller, lasers, PRP injections or fillers. Deep scars may not respond satisfactorily to these. Minor surgical procedures will be required.

Treatment has to be done by a dermatologist, who will assess the improvement. Dr. Maya Vedamurthy, Consultant dermatologist, RSV Skin and Laser Centre

Accordingly, the diet is charted.
