The viral fake news:
A video, in which an anonymous person can be heard claiming that Tamil inscriptions in the famous Brihadeeswara temple in Tanjore are being replaced with ‘Hindi’ inscriptions, is making rounds on social media.
The video then shows a closed iron gate in which the so-called work to remove the remaining Tamil inscriptions are underway, is baseless and untrue.
Truth turns out:
The script inscriptions that can been seen in the video are not Hindi, but Marathi. It is a well-known fact that Tanjore was ruled by various dynasties from Cholas to Pandyas, Nayakas and Marathas and not only the Tamil speaking kings.
The inscriptions shown in the video were placed when Saraboji, the ruler of Tanjore Marathas renovated the temple.
