Tech Next: 'Settling' is never an option for this feature-packed smartphone
Whether you’re a OnePlus die-hard or an Android user who loves speed, you’re probably considering the brand new OnePlus flagship.
Chennai
We’ll say this — it’s the best OnePlus device you can buy. It might have just ticked some key boxes that strengthen its claim.
It all starts with the form factor. The 7T is a tad lighter than its predecessor and feels much better in your hand. But the 7 Pro clearly has the edge in the display specs and offers one of the best displays out there that packs 516 Pixels per inch. The 6.55-inch display (1080 x 2400 pixels) on the 7T retains the same 90Hz refresh rate of the 7 Pro, but scales down the pixel density to 402 PPI. It’s still a very vibrant display, one that should work for most users.
The 7T comes with the same 16MP selfie cam but doesn’t pop up like the selfie shooter in the 7 Pro. It also means that the 7T features a tiny notch that conceals this selfie cam. The triple rear cam delivers the same results as the 7Pro except for a few small changes. For instance, this one offers 2X optical zoom (the 7 Pro comes with 3X optical zoom) and also adds macro mode that lets you get up close with a variety of subjects from flowers to insects.
Speed is a given with OnePlus devices, the 7T is propelled by the best of breed Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor that’s marginally faster than the 7 Pro. While we checked out the 8GB/256GB variant, there’s also an 8GB/128GB hardware option. Battery life is solid and thanks to OnePlus’ all-new Warp Charging 30T solution, you can power up your 7T in just under an hour. Like all its predecessors, the 7T doesn’t feature wireless charging, one of our only cribs in a device that’s one of the best all-round Android flagships out there. (Rs 37,999 onwards)
Amazfit GTR: Huami has just rolled out its newest wearable and it might just be one of the best smartwatches you can buy under Rs 15,000. The Amazfit GTR promises an incredible 24-day battery life which sets it apart from competing devices. The 410 mAh battery manages this despite a vibrant 1.39-inch AMOLED display (454 x 454 pixels) that packs an impressive 326 Pixels per inch (PPI). Huami offers a host of watch faces that play out quite well on this bold display.
Unlike smartwatch ecosystems like Fitbit or Apple, Amazfit doesn’t offer any Apps but makes up on the fitness front. There’s a whole bunch of sensors including heart-monitoring and the watch also supports 12 dedicated sports modes that includes outdoor running and swimming (it’s water resistant up to 5ATM). These modes are quite handy to track your performance metrics on the companion App. The Amazfit GTR pairs with both iOS and Android devices and is a great option for first time smartwatch buyers looking to test the waters. (Rs 10,999)
