Tech Next: Be blown away by these latest AI-powered devices
The world’s first QLED 8K TV has kept its date with India. Samsung’s new premium TV packs a staggering 33 million pixels.
Chennai
To put that number in perspective, it’s 16 times the resolution of your everyday Full HD TV. It’s impossible to visualise these numbers, that’s until you come up close with this TV. We were blown away with the images. It’s not just the picture quality, this is also a beautiful looking TV. One that is designed to seamlessly blend into you living room.
The TV quickly morphs into a bezel-less TV frame and can display a whole range of content from a painting to the day’s weather. You also have the option to add your photos tweaked with a whole bunch of artistic tools to add a personal touch to your living spaces. Minimalism is the central theme in Samsung’s design approach for this new range of TVs. All your external devices converge into a One Connect Box that hooks up with your TV via an almost invisible translucent cable eliminating the clutter in your drawing room. A unique ‘no gap’ wall mount ensures this TV clings to your wall like a painting.
The feature that really impressed us is the Samsung QLED 8K TV’s AI upscaling technology. Driven by machine learning, the TV automatically upscales all videos and sound to 8K irrespective of the original source or format. This includes videos of your family holiday shot on your smartphone or Content from YouTube or Netflix. It ensures you’re always watching 8K Content on this TV. (The QLED 8K TV range starts at Rs 10,99,900 for the 75-inch/189cm variant)

India became the first country where Nokia unveiled its new budget smartphone — Nokia 2.2. This is expected to become among the first budget smartphones that will receive the step up to Android Q. This device also launches other Nokia smartphones that are on the Android One platform, ensuring it first priority in OS updates and security patches. At its heart is a quad-core MediaTek Helio A22 processor. It comes in two hardware configurations — 2GB/16GB or 3GB/32GB. There’s a gorgeous water-drop notch on the 5.71-inch HD+ display.
The camera set up includes a 13MP rear cam (f/2.2 lens) and a 5MP selfie cam. The phone offers support for Micro SD cards (up to 400GB) and features a robust 3,000 mAh battery under the hood. But more than the hardware spec sheet it’s the seamless integration with Google services that is one of the device’s strengths. Google Lens and Google Assistant (there’s a dedicated button) work effortlessly. The device also offers Digital Wellbeing features that incorporate App Timers and an improved Do Not Disturb option. The imaging experience is AI-powered on both cameras, that include a handy low-light fusion mode for lowlight scenarios.
