Tech Next: These latest gadgets improve picture and sound quality
Huawei’s recent flagships have been defined by their stellar cameras. The brand has forged a successful partnership with Leica that has addressed two key traditional weak links in smartphone cameras — lowlight photography and lossless zoom. The P30 Pro is the latest chapter and takes a giant stride with its quad camera.

The first thing you will notice about the P30 Pro is its rear camera set up. This one goes one up on its predecessors with a quad cam that is also its most distinct design element. The device sports a 6.47-inch display (1080 x 2340 pixels / 398 PPI). This curved display is gorgeous with vivid colours, the device feels really good in your hands.
Huawei continues with its elegant textured colour options that include a striking Aurora Blue variant. At 192 gms its not exactly featherlight but makes room for a solid 4200 mAh battery. Battery life is terrific, while Huawei’s fast charging option ensures this device goes from 0 to 70% in just thirty minutes. Huawei pioneered wireless reverse charging with the Mate 20 Pro, a feature that is also available on the P30 Pro. All you have to do is activate reverse charging and your phone doubles up as a wireless charger that can power up other compatible smartphones or gadgets.
The P30 boasts of an impressive hardware spec sheet. At its heart is Huawei’s zippy HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. Ultimately the P30 Pro is about its camera; this is where the device truly shines. There’s a 32MP selfie camera and the quad rear cam includes a 40MP primary lens and an 8MP periscope lens that allows you to shoot up to 10MP of near lossless zoom. We put the cam through extensive testing over two weeks — lowlight images were excellent and the lossless zoom is a great feature to have. The Huawei P30 Pro is the smartphone camera to beat (Rs 71,990)
