TECH NEXT: Unboxing OPPO’s clever new ‘Rising’ selfie cam

The Notch is slowly going out of favour as premium smartphones get creative with the placement of the selfie camera lens. OPPO’s new F11 Pro opts for what it calls a ‘Rising’ camera that pops up each time you switch to selfie mode. It’s a great design tweak and ensures that it pushes the screen: body ratio beyond 90%.

The F11 Pro scores on design aesthetics. The device’s unique triple colour gradient (it comes in two shades – Aurora green and Thunder black) looks gorgeous especially under lights. This device is all-screen — you get a 6.5-inch (1080 x 2340 pixels) screen without any clutter. The 16MP selfie cam with AI capabilities is placed on the top centre of the device. OPPO opts for a conventional fingerprint sensor that’s located on the rear of the device — it’s responsive and easy to locate.

The headline feature of the F11 Pro is its rear cam that combines a 48MP lens with a 5MP depth sensor. The phone’s Live Portrait Mode is a key differentiator, we checked out the Night Mode and also shot images without the Night Mode. The results without the Night Mode were surprisingly good. A Mediatek Helios P70 processor is at the heart of this device; it combines with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of Internal storage. The device is quite robust and chugs along smoothly just like the 4000 mAh battery that comfortably lasts a day. We were surprised to see a Micro USB charger but OPPO’s proprietary VOOC fast charging tech is quite effective and should take you from 0 to 50% in about thirty minutes. The F11 Pro scores with its chic design, lowlight photography, bezel-less display and solid battery (Rs 24,999)

    Fitbit Versa Lite:

Fitbit announced a lighter and more affordable version (Rs 15,999) of its Fitbit Versa that debuted in India last year. The Versa Lite will soon be available for sale in India and features some of the key features that Fitbit users and fitness fanatics find handy. There’s heart rate monitoring, sleep tracking and workout tracking as also standard features like step and calorie counts. You have access to heaps of watch faces too. The Lite does not have an altimeter (so no tracking all the floors you climb) and doesn’t allow you to store music on your watch.

    Avita Liber:

tired of laptops in 50 shades of grey? Avita (owned by Hong Kong-based laptop manufacturer Nexstgo) has unveiled a new range of laptops that range from Rs 24,990 to Rs 67,490 for the Core i5 7Y54 variant. The Liber series is available in 13.3-inch and 14-inch versions that both come in an aluminium chassis and an identical display resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). You can choose from 4GB/8GB of DDR3 RAM that team up with 256GB/512GB of SSD storage. Avita claims a ten-hour battery life for each charging cycle for this ultra-light laptop but it’s the choice of 5 distinctive patterns and 14 colour options that set this laptop apart.
