Pokémon Go launches in Brazil just in time for Rio Olympics 2016
The popular augmented reality mobile game, Pokémon Go, has officially been rolled out in Brazil, today.
People can now play and win Pokémon Go medals in Brazil as well. The augmented reality game, which was released early July 2016 allows players to roam around the real-life world to collect virtual monsters and medals. Just before the launch, the official Pokémon Go account tweeted out that they were working hard on the roll out in Brazil.
"Break out the sneakers and Poké Balls, and get ready to explore the world around you," read an announcement post on the game's official Facebook page. "We are excited to officially be putting Pokémon Go in the hands of our Latin American fans, visitors, and the Olympic athletes in Rio!"
Though Pokémon Go app could still be opened in Brazil, the map on the game was previously devoid of any Pokémon or Pokémon stops, leaving many visiting athletes disappointed that they would not be able to hunt or train their pocket monsters over the course of the Games.
According to a report in The Verge, a Japanese Olympic gymnast Kohei Uchimura has already raked up a 500,000 Yen bill (about Rs 3,30,000) playing Pokémon Go in Brazil because of unexpected roaming charges.
Brazil, the host of the Olympic Games is supposedly said to attract over half a million visitors, during the event which is scheduled to being on August 5 till August 21.
