Plea to prosecute Raja dismissed as cops say no prima facie to file FIR

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court on Monday dismissed a petition filed for filing an FIR against Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) organising secretary and The Nilgiris MP A Raja alleging that he made a speech in a way hurting the sentiments of Hindus.

Justice V Sivagnanam rejected the petition after the state police informed the court that there is no prima facie made out to file a case against Raja.

The police further submitted that the Central Crime Investigation Department of the city police launched a probe and filed a report that there is no necessity to file an FIR against Raja for his speech.

The case of the petitioner named PA Josseph claims to be the president of the JJ Party submitted that while attending a function at Periyar Thidal in Vepery on September 6, Raja made a speech in a way hurting the Hindus' sentiments.

"Raja's speech had created unnecessary enmity between the Hindu religion and caused a communal imbalance in the state which culminated into law and order problem," he stated.

Joseph further added that since Raja belongs to the ruling political dispensation the police did not consider his representation to file FIR against him.

"Most of our political parties and their leaders violate Article-I9 of the Indian constitution and create problems and confusion between the peoples by their hate speech and India's democracy and secularism are being questioned, ” the petitioner submitted.
