CHENNAI: Union minister of commerce and industry Piyush Goyal on Sunday said the DMK government is purposefully stopping all the Central sponsored schemes from reaching the poor to avert Prime Minister Narendra Modi gain popularity among the people of Tamil Nadu. It would ultimately lead to the downfall of this government.

“The (DMK) government is scared of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as they worried that the people of TN would start liking him. Hence, they are not allowing the PM’s picture in the central government schemes in the state. They want only to stop the schemes reaching the poor. It would lead to the ruling party’s political downfall, ” said Goyal while participating in the party’s programme to popularise the schemes in Chennai.

People of TN trust Modi and this trust comes after eight years of his service and hard work. He believes in development politics and he personally wants to see a prosperous, developed and honest TN, said Goyal.

Recalling Modi’s speech at the 75th Independence Day celebration, the minister said the PM emphasizes on corruption free India. “I think the people of TN also want a corruption-free TN. But we cannot trust the government that fully engages in corruption. It is completely not doing the development works for the poor, but it's doing works for development of son and son-in-law, ” said Goyal to take a dig at chief minister M K Stalin and his government.

Calling the party cadres as “ambassadors” of Modi, the minister said the party cadres have a responsibility to ensure that all the schemes reach the eligible beneficiaries. He also appreciated state BJP president K Annamalai for his efforts and said he was “future leader” of TN.

He slammed the DMK ministers and alleged that they have been using abuse and foul language against the PM. “We have political differences, but we respect the people's mandate and constitutional position and never use such language against them, ” Goyal said.

They are so scared of the PM as they are not allowed to put a picture of him in a central government scheme. The central government schemes help all sections of the people. If the picture of the PM has been put in all the schemes, then the people of the state start liking the PM. And what will happen to this (DMK) government?, he wondered.

Later in the day, he interacted with students of IIT-M at the campus of the institutions and also attended various programmes.
