CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Tindivanam Municipality Commissioner to consider a representation and to take a call within four weeks on a plea challenging the proposal to construct a sewage treatment plant and bore well tank inside a Children’s Park, which is close to the Anganwadi in Tindivanam town.

Justice GR Swaminathan and Justice N Mala passed the orders on disposing of a petition filed by V Jothiraman.

The petitioner prayed for a direction to the Municipality Commissioner, Tindivanam, to consider his representation dated September 19 and forbear the authorities from constructing a Sewage Treatment Plant in the above-said Children’s Park and bore well near the overhead water tank in Indira Nagar, Tindivanam town.

According to the petitioner, he is the president of a local residents’ welfare association and he was aggrieved with the move of authorities to give a proposal to put up a Sewage Treatment Plant inside the Children’s Park.

“The location is objectionable because an Anganwadi is situated nearby. It is further contended that the proposal of the local body breaches Section 32 of the Tamil Nadu Public Health Act, 1939,” the petitioner submitted.

Recording the submissions, the judges directed the Tindivanam Municipality Commissioner to consider the petitioner mentioned representation and pass an order on merits and in accordance with the law within a period of four weeks.
