COIMBATORE: A leopard, which was trapped in a snare, was rescued by the Forest Department in a farm in Pandalur in The Nilgiris on Sunday.

On receiving information, that a snared leopard is struggling to relieve itself on Saturday night, officials from the Cherambadi Forest Division arrived and took efforts to rescue the animal.

“The snare was removed after tranquilising the three-year-old female leopard early on Sunday morning. It was then caged and taken to the veterinary hospital in Mudumalai. The animal is treated for injuries it sustained while trying to free itself from the snare,” said an official.

The Forest Department has arrested one Aneesh Rajan (39), the son-in-law of the farm owner for setting up the snare to trap wild boars.

A search is on for the farm owner, who is on the run and further inquiries are on.
