CHENNAI: To protect social harmony, CPM, CPI and VCK would be holding a human chain on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, across the State in protest against BJP-RSS hate politics.

Addressing a press conference, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan said that RSS which was accused of killing Mahatma Gandhi has chosen Gandhi Jayanti day for holding rallies at 50 places in the state.

“Why did they choose Gandhi Jayanti for holding the rallies? They choose Dr Ambedkar’s birthday for demolishing the Babri Masjid. There is a political motivation for it. We fear they want to create communal tension. Tamil Nadu is known for communal harmony. No violence happened even when the Babri Masjid was demolished. They wanted to incite communal violence in the state,” he said.

CPM state secretary K Balakrishnan called upon the public to come forward to defeat the Sangh Parivar’s attempt to divide the people on the basis of religion and they should not by any way fall prey to attempts inciting violence.

“The idea of holding the human chain was to bring together all sections of the people on a secular platform and to ensure communal harmony,” he said.

On the slew of incidents of hurling petrol bombs at the residence of BJP and Sangh Parivar functionaries, CPI state secretary R Mutharasan urged the police to act swiftly to nab the culprits.

“In the past, we have seen how the BJP cadres themselves have set fire to their own vehicles and residences for publicity. The police had filed cases and arrested them,” he recalled.

He appealed to the public to extend support for the human chain.
