CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Saturday hit back at BJP national president JP Nadda for questioning the contribution of DMK to Tamil language.

Inaugurating the Tamil Parappurai Kazhagam (Tamil campaign movement) launched to promote and educate expatriate Tamils, Stalin said, “A national leader who visited Tamil Nadu a few days ago had wondered what was the contribution of DMK to Tamil language. Our answer to him could only be what has the DMK not done for Tamil. Such is the amount of work done in the last one year alone.”

Listing out in detail the various contributions of his party to Tamil, the Chief Minister said that Tamil Parappurai Kazhagam in the jewel on the crown of the contributions of dmk to the language.

Reasoning that the objective of the campaign movement is to ensure that all Tamils speak, read and write in Tamil, Stalin said that the expatriate Tamils have been pushed to the extent of not being able to fully use Tamil due to education, job and foreign lifestyle. Describing it as an inevitable predicament, Stalin said that Tamil should not be neglected despite such a predicament.

“Language is the identity and life of a race. Language is the food for a man’s emotions and manure for one’s thoughts. Hence, it’s my desire that one’s love for the mother tongue should transform into education and knowledge, ” he added, releasing the first stage textbook for learning Tamil. The movement has also come up with audio books, video lessons and flash cards for facilitating Tamil learning among Tamils.
