MADURAI: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) recognises September as childhood cancer awareness month by emphasising the burden of childhood cancer and IARC’s efforts to prevent and treat childhood cancer globally.

The department of Paediatric Hemato-Oncology, Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Center (MMHRC), Madurai, organised the ‘Oncology Survivor’ meeting for children.

Kasiviswanathan, head, Paediatric Hematology-Oncology, said, “Some youngsters received an early diagnosis and had no memory of their disease. Others who had survived childhood cancer were in their 20s or teens. Though each narrative is unique, they all have one thing in common: they’re all cancer survivors.”
