CHENNAI: The petition filed by the faction of former chief minister O Panneerselvam seeking police protection for OPS and his associates to visit AIADMK headquarters has been put on the back-burner by the City police.

On Wednesday, former minister D Jayakumar who belongs to Edappadi K Palaniswamy’s faction had approached the state police chief, requesting to not permit anyone to enter party headquarters.

In their petition, the EPS faction stated that any person expelled from party’s primary membership cannot claim rights to enter the headquarters and urged police to provide necessary protection for the AIADMK headquarters and prevent any incidents of trespassing.

Following this, members of OPS faction filed a petition with the City police on Thursday seeking police protection.

A senior police officer said that their request seeking police protection on the streets leading to the party headquarters is under consideration and that no decision has been made regarding it.

Police sources said that OPS has been told to not visit the party headquarters in the near future to avoid untoward incidents.
