CHENNAI: Justifying his social media outbursts against State Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan for insulting him, BJP state president K Annamalai on Thursday said that he was not Jesus Christ to turn other cheek if someone hits him.

“I was replying to the insults hurled at him by the minister. I’m not Jesus Christ to show my other cheek if you slap at me. If you hit me, I will hit back. If you are aggressive, I will be double aggressive. If you do respectful politics, I will be doubly respectful, ” he told reporters at his party headquarters here.

He accused the DMK of doing intimidating politics as he hailed from a village where his family was involved in farming and rearing goats. He asked the DMK to show a first-generation politician holding party posts like him as it talks a lot about social justice.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the Finance Minister had accused Annamalai, without naming him, of engineering a slipper-throwing on his car with a national flag on August 13 at Madurai Airport. The Minister’s accusation came in the wake of Annamalai acknowledging that it was his voice in the leaked audio - a conversation between him and a Madurai party functionary on PTR - but claimed that DMK added few words.

Responding to it in a series of tweets, Annamalai denied that he had a role in the slipper-throwing incident. “Finally, You are not worthy enough for my Chappals. I’ll never stoop to your level to orchestrate something like that. Don’t worry!” he wrote.
