CHENNAI: Chief Minister M K Stalin on Monday said that the State government would provide English communication training to college students to increase their employability.

Addressing students at the inauguration of a skill development programme as a part of “Naan Muthalvan” programme in the city, Stalin said that English proficiency has become an inevitable necessity in the current work climate.

“A kind of inferiority complex develops when someone has poor English knowledge. Hence, people with poor proficiency give up the idea of joining multinational companies,” the Chief Minister added.

“Training in English would be provided to all arts and science college students in the first semester through academies offering skill development training under Naan Muthalvan scheme,” he added.

He also added that students would be trained in German, Japanese and French apart from English.

Besides reducing the difficulty in learning English in the subequent years, it would also increase the confidence of students while completing graduation, the Chief Minister reasoned, advising students to read newspapers in English and Tamil.

Stating that it was desire that students of Tamil Nadu should fetch jobs not just in leading firms in the State and the country, but also MNCs, Stalin said that their target was not just jobs for all, but meritorious jobs for all. Remarking that Tamil was the mother tongue and English is the link language that networks people with the world, he appealed to the students that they must learn to speak and write in Tamil and English as only language proficiency would optimise one’s growth.
