Gang abducts AIADMK ex-MLA, extorts Rs 1.5 crore
Police said Eswaran, who suffered injuries in the attack was admitted in Sathyamangalam Government Hospital and then shifted to a private hospital in Coimbatore.
COIMBATORE: A six-member gang kidnapped an AIADMK ex-MLA and extracted Rs 1.5 crore before setting him free in Erode on Thursday.
In his complaint at Punjai Puliampatti police station, S Eswaran (45), an ex-AIADMK MLA from Bhavani Sagar constituency claimed that while he was returning home from a bank on the Sathyamangalam-Mettupalayam Road in a two-wheeler, the abductors had intercepted him in a car.
They blindfolded and took him in a car to be locked up in a house. “The abductors assaulted me demanding Rs 3 crore to set me free. Also, an AIADMK functionary from Ariyappampalayam spoke over phone demanding the ransom amount. I then arranged to give Rs 1.5 crore after which I was dropped in my house,” Eswaran told reporters.
