    For the first time in Tamil Nadu, advanced intensive care units with central monitoring system will be set up at 36 government hospitals at an estimated cost of Rs 266.73 crore.

    Chennai: Chief Minister M K Stalin inaugurated 1,583 oxygen beds and 516 bed advanced intensive care unit at 25 government medical college and hospitals and 18 Government District General Hospitals over video conference.

    For the first time in Tamil Nadu, advanced intensive care units with central monitoring system will be set up at 36 government hospitals at an estimated cost of Rs 266.73 crore. The 18 government district general hospitals will be upgraded at an estimated cost of Rs 97.49 crore.

    The nurses monitoring systems will help to support in easy monitoring of the vital functions of the patients being treated in the intensive care units as the vital statistics will be displayed on the monitor. Until now, nurses in the intensive care units had to monitor the vital status of each patient individually. Depending on the vitals information, the appropriate treatment may be provided, in a timely manner, by a specialized medical team. The precious human lives of those in intensive care will be saved with timely treatment, said a release by the department.

    The Chief Minister also inaugurated 51 Hybrid ICUs with 256 Government Medical College Hospitals and 18 Government District General Hospitals at a cost of Rs 2.27 crore each with a total value of Rs 97.49 crore for 516 beds.

    With this, each of the ICUs set up in these units will be equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, such as a multifaceted monitor, pulse oximeter, C-PAP, ECG, X-ray, ultrasound scan, and syringe pump. The beds (Hybrid ICU) are all connected to an integrated central nurse monitoring center.

    The International Yoga and Naturopathy Medicine Institute at a cost of Rs 65 crore was also inaugurated over video conference that is being built near Chengalpattu Government Medical College and Hospital. The Institute will offer naturopathic therapies include hydrotherapy, acupuncture, and acupressure. Patients will be offered yoga therapies, mud therapy and yoga exercises. In addition, a five-year undergraduate medical degree course with 100 seats and postgraduate for three-year course with 30 seats will be offered.

    An additional library building has been constructed at Kanniyakumari Government Medical College by the Directorate of Medical Education at a cost of Rs 30.09 crore. Several other buildings were opened at government hospital in Tambaram, Tirunelveli, Ooty, Kancheepuram, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur and Tiruvannamalai at a cost of 124.97 crore. The Chief Minister also inaugurated 108 ambulances at an estimated cost of Rs 5.34 crore.
