Will boost Aavin milk sale to 15 lakh litres a day: SM Nasar

State Dairy Development Minister SM Nasar on Wednesday informed the Assembly that the state government would make efforts to increase the daily Aavin milk sale in Chennai metro to 15 lakh litres per day (llpd).

Replying to the debate on demand for grants for the dairy development department in the Assembly, Nasar said the average milk sales in Chennai metro for the year 2021-22 is 13.36 llpd. Efforts are being taken to increase the milk sales to 15 llpd during 2022-23. Daily milk sales in Chennai metro had increased from 11.91 llpd in 2017-18 to 13.36 llpd in 2021-22.

The Dairy Minister also said the average sale of milk has increased by 2.80 llpd after the government reduced the price of milk by Rs 3 per litre and the monthly average sale of Aavin products increased from Rs 26.53 crore in 2020-21 to Rs 29.13 crore in 2021-22.

The Minister also announced that a six lakh litre capacity facility would be developed at Rs 150 crore at Padalur in Perambalur to manufacture dairy products. A two lakh litre capacity dairy farm will be developed at Rs 71.22 crore at Acharapakkam in Chengalpattu.

Ten new Aavin products, healthmix, cold coffee, Cheddar Cheese, jackfruit ice cream, basanthi, milk biscuit, baked yoghurt, white chocolate and butter murukku would be introduced by Aavin.

Kuruvai coverage up by 1.40 lakh acres

Replying to the debate on demand for grant for his department, Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam said that cultivation of Kuruvai has increased by 1.40 lakh acres in the state during the last 10 months and total crop cultivation has increased by 5.29 lakh acres in the state during the ten months of DMK regime.
