    10 mobile research labs, several clubs planned in schools across state

    School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi said 100-year-old historical school buildings in the state will get a facelift at a cost of Rs 25 crore. “In order to showcase the importance of Science, 10 mobile research labs will be established at a cost of Rs 25 crore,” he said adding several clubs, including computer coding clubs and robotics clubs will also be set up in the government schools.

    Chennai: Pointing out that vegetable gardens will be set up in the government schools, Poyyamozhi said the school chess olympiad will also be organised involving national and international chess players to encourage the school students.

    Poyyamozhi said from the coming academic year onwards school fee of Rs 200 per student, who want to pursue computer stream, will be scrapped. “This would benefit 3 lakh students,” he said adding the exchequer will lose Rs 6 crore.

    The Minister said in a bid to benefit the students, wi-fi will be established in as many as 352 government libraries.

    Research Park at Anna varsity at Rs 50 cr Stating that the government has also decided to introduce industry skill-based courses to the students of Anna University, Higher Education Minister K Ponmudy said the establishment of a research park at Anna University will also be done at a cost of Rs 50 crore.

    “A women hostel will also be constructed in this university at Guindy campus at a cost of Rs 49.3 crore,” he said adding lateral entry admission for diploma students, who want to pursue engineering courses, will also be started in Anna University.

    He said the scheme will be implemented for exempting fees for jail inmates transgenders and destitute widows, who want to pursue degree courses in government open universities.

    Pointing out that the government would create infrastructural facilities in government colleges, he said sports facilities would also be improved in the state-run engineering colleges.
