COIMBATORE: The 14th edition of ‘Coimbatore Vizha’ is scheduled to take off on Friday with a lineup of exciting events for the whole week till April 17. A major highlight will be Coimbatore’s first ever water screen laser, sound and light show; titled ‘Symphony by the Lake’ to celebrate the beauty of the lakes in the city.

Also, people will be treated to a special show on water screen titled Netru, Indru, Naalai, to chronicle Coimbatore over the past centuries and way forward. There will be a minimum of six shows daily from 7 pm to 9 pm and an entire street has been cordoned off to give a completely free to view experience with no entrance fee. Both the spectacular shows on Valankulam Lake will be held on all days.

Art mart

On April 9 and 10, around 70 artists will put up their works at ‘Oviya Sandhai’ and there will be 14 in-person workshops planned over the two days at Race Course in Coimbatore.

For the fitness freaks, marathon events will be held at Nehru Stadium on April 17. Bringing in more variety and cater to all segments of the society, there will also be ‘Vaanga Samaikkalaam,’ a cooking contest to test the culinary skills, ‘Vaanga Business Pannalaam,’ a platform to bring together new startups and innovations from this region with prominent investors, advisors and experts from across the region and ‘Vaanga Vivasaayam Pannalaam’ to promote agribusiness development facilities.

As part of the Vizha, an ‘Exotic Car Rally’ displaying 40 cars, including old, classic and modern, will be flagged off by Collector GS Sameeran from Cosmopolitan Club on April 13.

Sports event for para athletes

For the first time ever, the fest will have Paralympics, which will have 100 children aged 5 to 18 with various physical and intellectual impairments participating in the special event at Nehru Stadium on April 13. Also, 50 adult para athletes will compete in discus, javelin throw, shotput and wheelchair running. Four teams of men and women will participate in a sitting volleyball competition. There will also be heritage walks, curated walks and free health camps as part of the festival.
