    Chennai: Health Minister Ma Subramanian handed over colour ultrasound scanning machines for installation at 10 community health centers within Greater Chennai Corporation. The machines worth Rs 1.10 lakh were handed to the healthcare officials in community health centers in Puzhal, Thiruvottriyur, Manali, RK Nagar, Pulianthope, Padi, Aynavaram, Vadapalani and Porur.

    As many as 38 districts were also provided with spirometre for the district headquarters hospital in each district. The spirometre is used to measure the functioning of the lung, by evaluating the air inspired and expired by the lungs. A total of Rs. 56.62 lakh worth machines have been provided, said the Health Minister.

    He further added that Omandurar Government Hospital has recently received a separate lab for the monitoring the health of pregnant women and the child. The lab has been constructed at a total cost of Rs. 1 crore.

    Talking about the new subvariant of COVID-19, the Health Minister said that people should not be negligent and get vaccinated voluntarily as the new variant had been detected. "Currently, 92 per cent of the people have been vaccinated with the first dose and 76 percent of them have received the second dose of vaccines. Though there is no need to panic, public should be vigilant," he said.

    Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan, Chennai Mayor R Priya and Deputy Mayor Mahesh Kumar were also present at the event.
