Vax supply from Coonoor to start by 1st half of 2023

Production of COVID vaccine at the Integrated Vaccine Complex (IVC) in Chengalpattu is unlikely to happen anytime soon as the much-hyped IVC has not found any takers for production. This information was disclosed by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya to DMK Rajya Sabha MP P Wilson recently in a letter, a copy of which is available with DT NEXT.

However, the Pasteur Institute of India (PII) in Coonoor has come as a silver lining for the COVID management plans. In his letter, Mandaviya confirmed to the DMK MP that PII would supply vaccines by the first half of 2023.

Replying to a letter written by Wilson in this regard, Mandaviya clarified that HLL Biotech had invited bids on March 27, 2021, for selection of IVC facility on “as is where is” basis through competitive bidding and April 14, 2021, was set as the last date to submit the technical bid.

The initial price offer for the tender, which allows the successful bidder to use the IVC facility for the manufacture of vaccines, was subject to the terms specified in the tender document, according to the Union Health Minister.

But HLL did not receive the response by the due date and the date was initially extended to May 7 and again to May 21.
