PTR stopped by CISF staff at city airport for carrying 2 laptops
An altercation ensued between State Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan and CISF personnel at the Chennai airport on Thursday morning after he was stopped for carrying two laptops. He was on his way to board a 6 am flight to Thoothukudi.

Sources said, the CISF sub-inspector saying the passenger cannot carry two laptops left the Minister shocked and led to a heated argument between the two. Airport sources said that only after senior CISF officials and airport officals reached the spot and apologised to the Minister, did the situation become normal.
When stopped by the CISF SI for having two laptops, the Minister reportedly told the official that there was no rule restricting passengers carrying two laptops. “He also tried to tell the CISF man that he is a Minister, but the guard seems to have missed the point,” an official said. The Minister even tried explaining to the man in Hindi, hoping that would ease the situation but the SI did not relent. “Only after senior officials rushed to the scene with apologies did the SI realise his mistake and tendered his apology. The Minister was later allowed to travel with two laptops,” an airport official said.
In August last year, DMK MP Kanimozhi had faced harassment by a CISF officer who had allegedly questioned her nationality for not knowing Hindi at the Chennai Airport.
