Drawing the MEA’s attention to an incident of Lankan Navy firing at Nagapattinam fishermen near Kodiakarai in which one person was grievously injured on August 1, Stalin said the use of violence by the Lankan Navy in violation of international law was condemnable. “We cannot be mute spectators to such a situation. We must resolve this immediately,” the CM added.

Stating that the incident has caused unrest among people along the coast of Tamil Nadu, the CM said that it was their duty to protect the lives and resources of Indian fishermen and ensure that Sri Lankan Navy abides by international law.

Urging the Union government to mount pressure on Lankan government to prevent attack on Indian fishermen and stop their navy from damaging the nets and boats of Indian fishermen, Stalin also asked the Union Minister of External Affairs to find a long term political solution to the issue which affects the lives and livelihood of thousands of Indian fishermen.
